Why are Lovable builds failing?

Short answer
Builds usually fail from a syntax/type error, a broken import, or a server function that errors during the build's checks — copy the exact error into your next prompt rather than asking Lovable to guess.
Find the exact error
Every failed build produces a specific message in the build log or chat. This is the single most useful thing you can give Lovable — paste it verbatim rather than describing the symptom.
Typical causes
- A component references a file, prop, or export that no longer exists after an edit.
- A package was removed or its version changed and something still imports the old API.
- A server/edge function throws during its build-time check (often a missing secret or bad import).
- Conflicting or duplicate route/file names after a large refactor.
How to ask for a fix
The build is failing with this error: [paste full error]. Diagnose the root cause first, then make the smallest fix — don't rewrite unrelated files.
Recovery if it keeps failing
- Check Version history for the last version that built successfully.
- Revert to it, confirm it builds, then re-apply your intended change in a smaller step.
- If a specific new feature (e.g. a new integration) is the trigger, isolate it — ask Lovable to disable just that part and rebuild.
What usually goes wrong
- Asking Lovable to "just fix the build" without the error text often produces a broad, speculative rewrite instead of a targeted fix.
- Multiple unrelated prompts sent back-to-back before a build finishes can compound errors — wait for one build to resolve before sending the next.
- Errors that only show up at build time (not in Preview) are usually server-function or environment-variable issues — check secrets are set and referenced server-side.
Keep prompts scoped to one error at a time; see /troubleshooting for the general debugging flow.
