How do I fix a white screen in Lovable?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
A white screen is a rendering crash — check the browser console for the error, paste it back to Lovable verbatim, and revert to a working version if repeated fixes don't clear it.
Diagnostic sequence
- Open the browser console (F12) while viewing the white screen — the actual JavaScript error will be logged there, even though nothing shows on screen.
- Copy the full error text, including the file/component name if given.
- Check whether this happens in Preview only, or also on the Published site — that tells you whether it's a build-time or runtime issue.
- If it's published-only, check /questions/why-does-my-app-work-in-preview-but-not-when-published.
Common causes of a white screen
- A component crashes during render (e.g. calling
.map()on data that hasn't loaded yet). - A bad import or a missing default export.
- An unhandled error thrown outside a try/catch during app initialisation.
- A third-party script or embed failing and blocking the rest of the page.
What usually goes wrong when people try to fix it
- Describing it only as "white screen, please fix" — Lovable then has to guess, and may fix the wrong thing.
- Sending several vague fix requests in a row, each one patching over the last without addressing the root cause — this is how fix loops start (see /questions/why-does-lovable-keep-saying-try-to-fix).
What to send instead
The screen is white. Console error: [paste exact text and stack trace]. This started after [describe the last change you made]. Find the root cause and fix it, don't just suppress the error.
When to stop fixing and revert
If two or three targeted fix attempts don't work, use Version history to restore the last version that rendered correctly, then make your change again more incrementally. Continuing to prompt fixes on top of a broken render often makes the codebase messier without solving the underlying bug.
