Why is Lovable chat stuck loading?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Chat usually gets stuck loading due to a network blip, a very large/complex request, or a backend timeout. Refresh first, then check the console before resending the same prompt.

Diagnostic sequence

  1. Refresh the browser tab — this reconnects the chat session without losing your project.
  2. Check your internet connection and try a different network if possible.
  3. Open the browser console (F12) for network errors (look for failed requests to Lovable's API).
  4. Check whether the request was unusually large — a prompt asking for many changes at once, or referencing a huge amount of code/context, takes longer and is more likely to time out.
  5. Try a smaller, more specific prompt to see if chat responds normally to that.

What usually goes wrong

  • Overloaded requests — asking for a full redesign, a new backend feature, and several bug fixes in one message. Split it into separate messages instead.
  • Browser tab left open for a long time — long-lived sessions can lose their connection; a refresh fixes this.
  • Temporary platform load — occasional and usually resolves within a few minutes.
  • Ad blockers or browser extensions interfering with network requests — try an incognito window with extensions disabled.

What not to do

Don't spam the send button — resending while a message is still processing can create duplicate or conflicting instructions once it does respond. Wait, refresh, then resend once.

If it keeps happening

Chat has been stuck loading for over [X] minutes on this request: [paste prompt]. Please retry it.

If it's a recurring pattern rather than a one-off, it's worth simplifying your Project knowledge and recent chat history — very long conversations increase the context Lovable has to process every time. Starting a fresh chat thread (not a new project) sometimes resolves persistent slowness.

See /troubleshooting for more on diagnosing platform-level issues versus project-level ones.
