Why is my Lovable preview blank?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

A blank preview almost always means a JavaScript error is stopping the app from rendering. Open the browser console to find the exact error, then ask Lovable to fix it.

Diagnostic sequence

  1. Open the Preview panel and press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) to open the browser console.
  2. Look for a red error — commonly a syntax error, an undefined variable, or a failed import.
  3. Note the file and line number if shown.
  4. Check whether the blank screen appears on every page or only one route.
  5. Check the Logs tab if the app calls a backend function on load — a failed API call can prevent rendering if it's not handled with a loading/error state.

What usually goes wrong

  • A recent edit introduced a typo or removed an import that a component still relies on.
  • A component throws on missing data — for example, expecting a logged-in user but rendering before auth state resolves.
  • An environment variable or secret the app depends on at startup is missing (see /questions/why-are-environment-variables-missing).
  • The app is stuck in an infinite loading state because a promise never resolves, so nothing ever paints.

Fixing it

Preview is blank. The browser console shows this error: [paste exact error text]. Find the cause and fix it.

Pasting the exact console error dramatically improves how well Lovable can fix it — "it's blank" alone gives it nothing to work with.

If the console shows nothing at all, the issue may be a routing problem (wrong path, missing default route) rather than a script error — mention that explicitly.

When to revert instead of fixing forward

If several fix attempts haven't resolved it, don't keep stacking changes on a broken base. Use Version history to go back to the last version where Preview rendered correctly, then reapply your change more carefully. See /questions/how-do-i-undo-lovable-changes and /troubleshooting.
