Why does Lovable keep saying "try to fix"?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
That prompt means Lovable's own fix attempt didn't fully resolve the error and it's suggesting another pass. If it repeats several times, stop and change approach rather than keep clicking it.
What the message means
When Lovable surfaces a "try to fix" style prompt, it's flagging that the last change produced an error it can attempt to resolve automatically. Clicking it triggers another automated fix attempt on top of the current state.
This is fine once or twice for a genuinely small issue. It becomes a problem when it repeats without progress.
Why it can loop
- The underlying cause hasn't actually been identified — each fix attempt patches a symptom (e.g. suppressing an error) rather than the root issue, so a related error resurfaces.
- The original prompt was too broad, so each "fix" reintroduces a different side effect.
- The codebase has accumulated conflicting changes across a long chat history, making it harder for Lovable to reason about the correct fix.
Diagnostic sequence
- Read the actual error text shown, not just the "try to fix" button.
- Check Version history for how many versions have been created trying to solve this — a fast-climbing count with no resolution is the clearest sign of a loop.
- Stop clicking "try to fix" after 2 failed attempts.
What to do instead
Stop trying automatic fixes. Use Plan mode to investigate the root cause of this error before changing any code: [paste error].
Plan mode lets Lovable analyse the problem without immediately editing files, which breaks the fix-patch-break cycle. Once it identifies the actual cause, apply a single targeted fix.
If that still doesn't resolve it, revert to the last stable version via Version history and reapply your original change more narrowly — see /questions/how-do-i-stop-lovable-getting-stuck-in-a-fix-loop.
For a persistent loop on something business-critical, it can be quicker to have PromptSites.com diagnose the root cause directly than to keep iterating.
