Why is Lovable not working?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Usually it's not Lovable itself but one specific failure — a build error, a stuck message, a Supabase hiccup, or a browser issue. Diagnose in order rather than guessing.

Start with the basics

Before assuming Lovable is broken, rule out the obvious:

  1. Refresh the browser tab and try a different browser or incognito window.
  2. Check the Preview panel and the Chat panel separately — is the whole app down, or just one page?
  3. Open the browser console (F12) and look for red errors.
  4. Check Lovable's status page style announcements if the whole platform seems affected — this is worth a quick web check.

Narrow down the failure

  • Chat won't send or send a message hangs → see the stuck-loading question below.
  • Preview is blank/white → check the browser console for a rendering error and see the white-screen question.
  • A message came back with an error → ask Lovable to fix it directly, quoting the exact error text.
  • Build/deploy fails → check the error banner in Lovable and the build logs.
  • Backend calls fail → open Logs (functions, database, auth) to see the actual server-side error rather than guessing from the front end.

What usually goes wrong

Most "Lovable isn't working" reports turn out to be one of:

  • A stray edit introduced a syntax error that broke the whole app (check recent chat messages).
  • A third-party API key or secret is missing or invalid.
  • The Supabase/Lovable Cloud connection dropped.
  • The user is looking at a cached/old preview and hasn't refreshed.

What to do next

The app isn't loading. Here's the exact error from the console: [paste error]. Investigate and fix it, and tell me what caused it.

If you're several fix attempts in with no progress, use Version history to revert to the last known-good version rather than stacking more fixes on a broken base — see /troubleshooting and /questions/how-do-i-undo-lovable-changes.

If the issue involves backend logic you can't diagnose from the console, hand it to someone who can read the logs properly — PromptSites.com does this for stuck projects.
