How do I stop a Lovable page being indexed?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Ask Lovable to add a noindex meta tag to that specific page, and optionally disallow it in robots.txt — don't block the whole domain by mistake.

Use a noindex tag, not just robots.txt

The reliable way to keep a page out of Google is a <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> tag rendered in that page's <head>. robots.txt alone only stops crawling — a disallowed page can still get indexed (with no content shown) if other sites link to it, so noindex is the correct tool when you specifically don't want a page to appear in search.

Add a noindex meta tag to the /admin and /internal-tools pages only, and leave the rest of the site indexable.

Per-page vs site-wide

  • One or two pages (admin panel, staging test page, thank-you page): add noindex to just those routes.
  • Whole site (e.g. a staging/preview deployment you don't want found at all): add a global noindex, and keep it on the *.lovable.app preview domain rather than your real custom domain.

Steps

  1. Identify the exact route(s) to exclude.
  2. Ask Lovable to add the noindex tag conditionally for those routes (most SPA/TanStack Start setups render meta tags per-route).
  3. Publish the change.
  4. In Google Search Console, use "Inspect URL" on the page and request removal/re-crawl if it's already indexed — noindex only stops future indexing, it doesn't remove an already-indexed page immediately.

What usually goes wrong

  • Disallowing the page in robots.txt and assuming that's enough — it isn't, and can even backfire (a blank indexed listing).
  • Accidentally leaving a global noindex tag on after moving from preview to production, so the entire live site vanishes from Google. Always double-check this after publishing.
  • Forgetting that noindex needs to be rendered in the actual HTML <head> for each route, not just set once globally when only some pages should be hidden.
