Does Lovable automatically create a sitemap?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

No — a sitemap.xml isn't generated automatically for a typical project. You need to ask Lovable to add one, or it may be included as part of a dedicated SEO setup/review feature on newer projects.

The default state

A freshly created Lovable project doesn't ship with a sitemap.xml out of the box. Search engines can still discover and crawl your pages via internal links, but a sitemap makes indexing faster and more reliable, especially for larger sites.

How to get one

Ask Lovable directly:

Generate a sitemap.xml listing all my public routes, and add a reference to it in robots.txt.

For a static or mostly-static set of routes, Lovable can hand-write the XML file listing each URL. For an app with many dynamic pages (e.g. one page per product or blog post pulled from your database), you'll need a sitemap that's generated from your data rather than hardcoded — this typically means a small server function that queries your database and outputs XML, which is more involved and worth confirming Lovable has built correctly.

Where it needs to live

sitemap.xml should be reachable at the root of your domain: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. Static files usually go in the public/ folder so they're served as-is.

What usually goes wrong

  • Sitemap lists routes that don't exist or are private (e.g. admin pages) — only include public, indexable pages.
  • Dynamic content goes stale — a hardcoded sitemap won't include new blog posts or products added later; for growing content, ask for a sitemap that's generated dynamically rather than a fixed file.
  • Forgetting to submit it — creating the file doesn't tell Google about it. See how do I submit my Lovable sitemap to Google.
