How do I unpublish a Lovable project?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Open the Publish panel in your project and choose the unpublish/take-down option — this removes the live site while keeping your project and its code intact in Lovable.

Unpublishing doesn't delete your project

Unpublishing takes your site offline at its published URL (the lovable.app subdomain or your custom domain). Your project, chat history, code and database remain exactly as they were — you can republish at any point.

Steps

  1. Open your project in Lovable.
  2. Go to the Publish panel (top right of the editor).
  3. Choose the option to unpublish/take the site down.
  4. Confirm. The live URL stops resolving to your app.

If you can't find the exact toggle, ask Lovable directly in chat — "unpublish this project" — and it will point you to the right control or make the change for you.

What happens to your custom domain

If you had a custom domain connected, unpublishing the app doesn't automatically release the domain or its DNS records elsewhere — the domain stays configured in your project's Domains settings. Remove the domain connection separately if you want to reuse it elsewhere.

Why you'd unpublish

  • Taking a client site down for scheduled maintenance.
  • Pausing a project you're not ready to show publicly yet.
  • Replacing a live MVP with a rebuilt version before relaunching.

What usually goes wrong

  • Expecting unpublish to also delete the project or its Cloud data — it doesn't. If you actually want to delete everything, that's a separate, more permanent action in project settings.
  • Forgetting a custom domain is still pointed at Lovable's DNS after unpublishing, which can leave visitors seeing an error page rather than nothing at all. Consider a "coming soon" republish instead of a hard unpublish if a domain must keep resolving to something.
