How do I connect my own domain to Lovable?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
In Project settings, go to Domains, add your domain, and create the DNS records Lovable gives you (usually an A record or CNAME) at your domain registrar or DNS host — then wait for verification, which can take anywhere from minutes to a few hours.
Steps
- Open Project settings → Domains in your Lovable project.
- Add the domain you own (buy one first with any registrar if you don't have one).
- Lovable shows you the DNS records to add — typically an A record (for the root/apex domain) and/or a CNAME (for a subdomain like
www). - Log in to wherever your domain's DNS is managed (your registrar, or Cloudflare, etc.) and add those exact records.
- Return to Lovable and wait for it to verify — DNS changes can take from a few minutes up to 48 hours to propagate, though it's usually much faster.

Before you start
- You need to already own the domain (via any registrar — Lovable doesn't sell domains directly inside the product for all setups, so check what's shown in your Domains tab).
- Publish your project first — a custom domain points at a published app.
What usually goes wrong
- Adding the records at the wrong place (e.g. editing DNS in the registrar's dashboard when the domain's nameservers actually point to Cloudflare, so changes there are ignored).
- Conflicting existing records (an old A record for
@left in place alongside the new one). - Not waiting long enough — DNS propagation isn't instant; give it time before assuming it's broken. If it's genuinely stuck, see why-isn-t-my-custom-domain-connecting.

- AnswerWhat DNS records does Lovable need?Lovable shows the exact records to add when you connect a domain — typically an A record for the root/apex domain and a CNAME for `www` (or a subdomain), plus any verification record it asks for.
- AnswerDoes Lovable provide SSL?Yes. Every Lovable-published site gets HTTPS automatically, including the free lovable.app subdomain and any custom domain you connect through Lovable.
- AnswerHow do I connect www and non-www versions?Add DNS records for both the root domain and the `www` subdomain in Lovable's Domains panel, then choose one as your primary — Lovable typically redirects the other to it automatically.
- AnswerHow do I publish a Lovable website?Click Publish in the top-right of the Lovable editor; it deploys your current version to a live `*.lovable.app` URL (or your connected custom domain) in under a minute.
Related troubleshooting
- AnswerWhy isn't my custom domain connecting? Most failures come down to DNS records that don't exactly match what Lovable asked for, edits made in the wrong place, or not waiting long enough for DNS to propagate — check the records first, then give it time.
- AnswerWhy does my domain show a 404 or 403 error?A 404/403 on a connected domain usually means DNS is pointed correctly but the app hasn't been published, the domain is linked to the wrong project, or the SSL/routing hasn't finished setting up yet — it's a different problem from DNS not resolving at all.
