Why isn't Lovable saving data?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Most commonly this is a missing or misconfigured RLS policy blocking the insert/update, an unconnected database, or a form that never calls the backend at all.

Start by isolating where the failure is

"Not saving" can mean the request never fires, fires but fails, or succeeds but writes somewhere you're not checking. Work through these in order.

Checklist

  1. Is Lovable Cloud (or Supabase) actually connected? If your project has no backend attached, forms have nothing to save to. Ask Lovable to confirm the backend status.
  2. Check the browser console and network tab for a failed request. A 401/403 usually means RLS or auth; a 500 means a server/edge function error.
  3. Look at Row Level Security. If a table has RLS enabled but no INSERT/UPDATE policy for the current role, writes fail silently in the UI even though the request completes with an error.
  4. Confirm the form is calling the backend at all. Some early drafts wire up a form's UI without connecting it to a table — describe the exact behaviour you want and ask Lovable to connect it.
  5. Check you're looking at the right table/environment. Data may be saving fine into a different table or a test environment than the one you're viewing.

My "Add task" form doesn't seem to save anything to the tasks table. Check the RLS policies and the form's submit handler and fix whatever's blocking it.

What usually goes wrong

  • RLS blocks anonymous inserts because there's no policy for the anon role, common when you skip login but still want public writes.
  • A required column has no default and the app doesn't send a value, so the insert fails validation.
  • The save works, but the UI doesn't refetch afterwards, so it looks unsaved.

When to get help

If you've checked all the above and data still isn't persisting, describe the exact symptom (error message, network response) to Lovable rather than re-describing the feature — targeted debugging prompts fix this faster than vague ones. Persistent, hard-to-pin-down cases are also a good candidate for PromptSites.com if you'd rather have someone else diagnose it.
