How do I back up my Lovable database?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Lovable Cloud stores backups you can restore from directly in the Database screen; for extra safety, also ask Lovable to export your data periodically.

Built-in backups

Projects on Lovable Cloud include database backups you can review and restore from within the Database section of the Cloud tab — this covers accidental data loss or a bad migration without needing your own infrastructure.

Exporting data yourself

For an independent copy — before a big schema change, or just for peace of mind — ask Lovable to export your data:

Export all the data from my database tables so I have a copy outside the project

Advanced settings also cover exporting data as part of managing your backend's infrastructure.

If you're on your own Supabase project

If you connected your own Supabase project rather than using Lovable Cloud, backups and restore points are managed through your Supabase project directly, since it's your own account, not Lovable's.

A sensible backup habit

  1. Before any major schema change (new tables, altered columns, migrations), ask Lovable to note the current state or take an export first.
  2. Keep exports for anything containing data you couldn't regenerate (user-submitted content, orders, uploads' metadata).
  3. Treat Version history for your code and database backups for your data as two separate safety nets — reverting code doesn't undo a data change, and vice versa.

What usually goes wrong

  • Assuming code version history also protects data — it doesn't; database changes and code changes are tracked separately.
  • Only discovering there's no recent backup after a destructive change has already happened. If you're about to ask Lovable to "clean up" or restructure tables, back up first.
  • Restoring a backup without checking what it will overwrite — confirm scope before restoring.
