How do I email form submissions to myself?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Connect an email integration (Resend is the standard option), then ask Lovable to trigger a server-side function that emails you the form data whenever it's submitted.

Email sending needs a server-side integration

Browsers can't send email directly and safely — the sending API key would be exposed. Lovable handles this with a connector: you link a Resend account (or similar), and the API key is stored server-side, called from a server function rather than the browser.

Set it up

  1. Ask Lovable to connect Resend: see how do I connect Resend to Lovable.
  2. Prompt the notification behaviour:

When the contact form is submitted, send me an email at [email protected] with the submitted name, email and message, using Resend.

Lovable creates a server function that calls Resend's API with the form data and your address as recipient.

Sender address matters

Resend requires a verified sending domain for anything beyond their test address. Until you verify your own domain, test emails may only deliver to the account owner's address. See how do I use my own email domain and why aren't form emails being delivered if messages aren't arriving.

Combine with storage

Emailing yourself is fragile as your only record — inbox search isn't a database. Most real projects do both:

Save each submission to an enquiries table and also email me a notification, using Resend.

What usually goes wrong

  • Using an unverified domain: emails from noreply@yourdomain.com won't send until DNS records (SPF, DKIM) are verified.
  • Hardcoding the API key in the front end: this is a security risk and Lovable's server functions exist specifically to avoid it — the key should never appear in browser-visible code.
  • No error handling: ask Lovable to show the user an error state if the email fails to send, rather than a silent failure that looks like success.

For anything beyond a simple notification (templates, multiple recipients, retries), it's worth having PromptSites.com review the setup once, since email deliverability issues are easy to miss until they cost you real enquiries.
