How do I test SEO?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
Check that every page has a unique title and meta description, images have alt text, the site generates a sitemap, and preview the page as a search engine or social share would see it.
What to check
- Page titles and meta descriptions — every important page should have a unique, descriptive
<title>and meta description, not a generic default repeated everywhere. - Headings — one clear
h1per page, sensible heading order beneath it. - Alt text on meaningful images — decorative images can skip it, content images shouldn't.
- Sitemap and robots.txt — check they exist and aren't accidentally blocking the whole site (a leftover "disallow all" from a staging setup is a common mistake).
- Social preview — check how a shared link looks (Open Graph title/image) using a link-preview debugger before you promote the site.
- Clean, readable URLs for key pages rather than default route names.
- Mobile-friendliness and load speed, both of which affect search ranking as well as usability — see /questions/how-do-i-test-website-speed.
A prompt to ask Lovable
Check every page for a unique title tag and meta description, confirm images have alt text, and confirm there's a sitemap.xml that isn't blocked by robots.txt.
Note on SPA vs server-rendered SEO
If your project is a plain React (Vite) single-page app, content is rendered client-side, which some crawlers handle less reliably than server-rendered pages. Newer Lovable projects generated as full-stack TanStack Start apps can serve real HTML per route, which is generally better for SEO — this matters only if search visibility is a priority for the specific project.
What usually goes wrong
- Every page sharing the same title/description because they were never customised per route.
robots.txtleft blocking all crawlers from an earlier draft.- Broken or missing Open Graph image, so shared links look blank on social platforms.
- Assuming SEO is "done" once the site looks right — it needs its own explicit check.
