How do I add user registration?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Ask Lovable to add sign-up with the fields and verification behaviour you want — it builds the form, creates the user in Lovable Cloud's auth system, and can store extra profile details in your database.

What registration involves

Sign-up is part of Lovable Cloud's authentication, alongside login. When a user registers, an entry is created in the auth system; any extra details you want (name, company, plan tier) typically go in a linked profiles table you ask Lovable to create.

Requesting it

Add user registration with email, password and full name. Create a profiles table linked to the user's ID and store their full name there. Require email verification before they can log in.

Be specific about:

  • Which fields are required at sign-up vs added later.
  • Whether email verification is required before first login.
  • What happens immediately after registration (redirect to onboarding, dashboard, etc.).

Where extra profile data lives

Auth systems store the core identity (email, password hash, ID) separately from your own tables. A profiles table, linked by the user's ID, is the normal place for anything else — display name, avatar, preferences. Make sure this table has RLS so users can only edit their own profile.

What usually goes wrong

  • Storing role or permission data directly on the profile row — keep roles in a separate user_roles table so a user can't edit their own permissions.
  • Skipping RLS on the new profiles table, meaning any logged-in user can read or edit anyone's profile.
  • Forgetting to handle the case where sign-up succeeds but profile creation fails, leaving a user with an account but no profile row — ask Lovable to handle this atomically or with a fallback.
  • Not testing what happens if someone tries to register with an email that already exists.

A quick validation prompt

Test registering two different accounts and confirm each only sees their own profile data, not the other's
