How do I add password reset?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Ask Lovable to add a "forgot password" flow — it uses Lovable Cloud's authentication to email a reset link and lets the user set a new password.

What's involved

Password reset relies on the same authentication system as login/registration. You describe the flow, and Lovable wires up the email-sending, the reset link, and the page where a user sets a new password.

Add a "forgot password" link on the login page. It should email the user a reset link and take them to a page to set a new password.

What Lovable sets up

  1. A "Forgot password?" link or page.
  2. A request to the auth system to send a password-reset email to the given address.
  3. A reset-confirmation page that accepts the token from the email link and lets the user choose a new password.

Things to check afterwards

  • Confirm the reset email actually arrives (check spam folders during testing) and that the link points to your published domain, not a stale preview URL.
  • Decide what happens after a successful reset — auto-login, or redirect to the login page.
  • Make sure the reset link expires and can't be reused indefinitely.

What usually goes wrong

  • The reset email works on the Preview URL but the link points to the wrong domain after publishing — re-test after you set a custom domain.
  • No feedback shown if the email field doesn't match an existing account; decide deliberately whether to reveal that (a UX/security trade-off) rather than leaving it undefined.
  • Password strength or confirmation not enforced on the "set new password" page, so ask for that explicitly if it matters to you.

After I set my custom domain, test the password reset link end-to-end and confirm it points at the live domain, not the preview URL
