Can I use Lovable without Lovable Cloud?

Short answer
Yes. If your site has no accounts, no stored data and no server-side secrets, you never need to turn Cloud on.
Projects that need no backend
- Marketing sites and landing pages
- Portfolios and brochure sites
- Documentation and content sites where content lives in the code
- Calculators and tools that run entirely in the browser
The moment you do need one
- Users sign in
- Anything must be saved and read back later
- Forms must be stored rather than only emailed
- You call an API with a secret key (the key must never sit in the browser)
- You need file uploads
The alternatives
- Lovable Cloud — managed, one toggle, no separate account.
- Your own Supabase project — you own the infrastructure.
- Third-party APIs only — for example a form service or a headless CMS, called from the front end where no secret is involved.
A caution
If a tutorial tells you to paste a private API key into front-end code, stop. Anything shipped to the browser is public. That is precisely the job a backend exists to do.
