Browser IDE + AI · checked 1 Sept 2026
Lovable vs Bolt
Bolt (bolt.new, from StackBlitz) and Lovable both turn a prompt into a working web app in the browser, and both give you the real code. The difference is what happens after the first screen: Lovable ships a built-in backend, database and auth as part of the product, while Bolt leans on its own database or a Supabase connection you wire up. Both were re-checked on 1 September 2026 against each vendor's own docs and pricing pages.
Scorecard
Lovable takes 7 of 13 rows, 0 go the other way, and 6 rows are a genuine tie.
Pricing and features change often — verify anything critical against each vendor's own page before you commit.

Pick Lovable when
You want the database, login and hosting to exist without you choosing and connecting them, and you would rather describe a feature than configure it.
Pick Bolt when
You are comfortable in an IDE, want a very fast in-browser dev environment for a front-end-heavy build, and want to pick your own backend rather than inherit one.
Lovable vs Bolt, dimension by dimension
Each row was checked in both tools. The badge says which one we'd pick for that row on its own — ignore the rows that don't matter to your project.
Best for
TieLovable
Non-developers and small teams building a full app with accounts and stored data, without picking infrastructure.
Bolt
Fast prompt-to-prototype work on front-end-heavy React and Vite apps, in a real browser IDE.
Learning curve
Lovable winsLovable
Very low to start. Chat drives the build; a code tab is there when you want it.
Bolt
Low for prompting, moderate once you touch code, the Supabase connection or GitHub sync.
Website building
TieLovable
Generates responsive React, Vite and Tailwind front ends with live preview and visual edits.
Bolt
Generates full sites from prompts with instant preview and hosting. The free tier adds Bolt branding.
App building
Lovable winsLovable
Full-stack by default: describe a feature and the front end, tables and server logic are built together.
Bolt
Builds full-stack Vite apps with chat-based iteration; the backend half depends on the integration you add.
Backend
Lovable winsLovable
Lovable Cloud is built in: database, auth, storage, realtime and server functions, no separate setup.
Bolt
No native backend runtime beyond its database features. Server logic typically runs as Supabase edge functions.
Database
Lovable winsLovable
Every Cloud project gets a managed Postgres. Describe the data in chat and the tables are created for you.
Bolt
A built-in Bolt Database, or connect Supabase for Postgres. Moving between them later is awkward.
Authentication
Lovable winsLovable
Built in: email, phone, Google, Apple, Microsoft and SAML SSO, with login and signup pages generated for you.
Bolt
Handled through the Supabase integration, with some auth settings surfaced in Bolt's own database UI.
Code access
TieLovable
Standard React code you can browse, search, edit and download. Nothing is a black box.
Bolt
Full code visible and editable in the StackBlitz IDE, and exportable.
Neither tool locks your code away. If ownership is your worry, both pass.
GitHub
TieLovable
Two-way sync with GitHub, GitHub Enterprise or GitLab. Every AI change commits, and outside pushes sync back.
Bolt
Native two-way GitHub sync; Bolt can commit and push to a connected repo.
Deployment and domains
Lovable winsLovable
One-click publish to a hosted URL. Custom domains are bought, connected and verified in-app.
Bolt
Hosting is included, even on the free plan with a request cap. Custom domains are supported on paid plans.
Pricing
TieLovable
Free tier, Pro at $25/month (100 monthly credits plus 5 daily, up to 150/month), Business from $50/month. One credit balance covers building, hosting and backend usage.
Bolt
Free tier with 300K tokens/day and 1M/month, Pro at $25/month with no daily cap. Extra tokens are purchasable; annual billing discounts apply.
Same headline price at the entry paid tier, different meters: Lovable counts credits, Bolt counts tokens.
Strengths
TieLovable
Backend, auth and hosting included; real exportable code; two-way GitHub sync; the whole stack answers to one chat.
Bolt
Very fast in-browser dev loop, complete code transparency, native GitHub sync, and a generous free hosting tier.
Limitations
Lovable winsLovable
Credit pricing is hard to forecast, because credits pay for both building the app and running it.
Bolt
Tokens drain quickly on complex builds, the Supabase route is tied to Vite projects, and swapping database providers later is painful.
Our take
For a first full-stack app, Lovable does more for you: the database, auth and hosting are part of the product, so a signed-in, data-driven app is a prompting job rather than an integration job. Bolt is genuinely strong at what it is: a very fast browser IDE with full code visibility, two-way GitHub sync and free hosting on its lower tier. If you already know how you want your backend to work, that freedom is an advantage rather than a gap. Where Bolt wins outright is the free tier for pure front-end work. Where Lovable wins is everything that happens once your app needs accounts and stored data. Both bill on usage, so the honest answer on cost is that neither is predictable if you iterate heavily. Check the current numbers on each pricing page before you commit.
