Why is my Lovable website slow?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
Slowness is usually caused by large unoptimised images, too much data fetched at once, or heavy client-side rendering — profile it with Lighthouse/DevTools before asking Lovable to fix anything.
Diagnose before optimising
Run a Lighthouse report (Chrome DevTools → Lighthouse, or PageSpeed Insights) and check the Network tab for what's actually large or slow. Guessing wastes prompts; a report tells you the real bottleneck.
Common causes in Lovable apps
- Unoptimised images — large PNG/JPEG files served at full resolution instead of compressed, sized, and lazy-loaded.
- Over-fetching data — a page pulling every row/column from a table when only a few are needed, or fetching on every render instead of once.
- No code-splitting — a large app bundled into one JavaScript file that has to load before anything renders.
- Excessive re-renders — a component re-rendering unnecessarily due to state or effect logic, especially as features accumulate.
- Third-party scripts (analytics, chat widgets) loaded blocking rather than deferred.
How to fix it with Lovable
Run a performance check on this project. Look for large images, unnecessary re-fetching of data, and unused JavaScript, and suggest the highest-impact fixes first.
Then apply fixes incrementally and re-run Lighthouse after each one to confirm it actually helped.
What usually goes wrong
- Fixing things that don't matter (micro-optimising a small component) while a 4MB hero image is the actual problem.
- Not re-measuring after a fix — assuming it worked instead of confirming with another Lighthouse run.
- Treating this as a one-off task instead of a habit — performance tends to degrade gradually as features are added (see the related question on that).
