How do I secure a Lovable app before launch?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Before launch, verify RLS on every table, move roles into a dedicated user_roles table, confirm no secrets sit in front-end code, and run Lovable's Security view scan.

Pre-launch checklist

  1. Row-level security — every table holding user or business data should have RLS enabled with policies matching your actual access rules, not the permissive defaults left over from prototyping.
  2. Roles in their own table — a user_roles table (with a foreign key to the user) checked server-side, never a role column on profiles a user could edit through their own row.
  3. Secrets server-side only — API keys for Stripe, email providers, or third-party APIs belong in Edge Functions, never in front-end code or .env files shipped to the browser.
  4. Admin routes protected server-side — hiding a link in the UI isn't protection; the underlying query or function must check the user's role.
  5. Rate limiting on public endpoints — forms, sign-ups and any public API route should have basic abuse protection (see /questions/how-do-i-prevent-database-abuse).
  6. Run the Security view — Lovable's built-in scan flags exposed keys, missing RLS, and vulnerable dependencies.

A prompt that helps

Before I launch, do a full security pass: confirm RLS is enabled and correct on every table, roles are stored in a separate table, no secrets appear in front-end code, and admin routes check permissions server-side.

What usually goes wrong

Teams test with one account (usually their own, often an implicit "admin") and never verify what a second, ordinary account can see. Create a genuinely low-privilege test account and try to access other users' data and admin pages directly by URL before you call the app launch-ready. See /questions/can-users-access-other-users-information for the specific test. For anything handling payments or personal data, a pre-launch review from PromptSites.com is worth the cost.
