How do I run a security audit on Lovable?

Last checked 31 Aug 2026

Short answer

Open your project's Security view in Lovable to see automated scan results, then ask Lovable in chat to review RLS policies, role storage, and any exposed secrets in detail.

Using the built-in Security view

Every Lovable project has a Security view that runs automated scans covering:

  • Exposed API keys or secrets in front-end code
  • Missing or overly permissive row-level security policies on database tables
  • Known vulnerabilities in project dependencies

It highlights issues found and lets you jump to the relevant fix before or after publishing.

Going beyond the automated scan

Automated scans catch structural problems (no RLS at all, a key sitting in client code) but not logic errors (an RLS policy that's technically present but too permissive). Follow up with a targeted chat request:

Review every table's row-level security policy and tell me, in plain language, exactly who can read and write each one. Flag anything that looks too permissive.

A short manual checklist

  1. Confirm roles live in a dedicated user_roles table, not a column on profiles.
  2. Confirm every table holding user data has RLS enabled — not just "created", but "enabled".
  3. Search the codebase for hard-coded keys: sk_, service_role, or similar patterns should never appear in front-end files.
  4. Check that admin-only pages verify the user's role server-side, not just by hiding a menu item in the UI.

What usually goes wrong

Relying solely on the automated scan and skipping the manual policy review — a scan says "RLS enabled", not "RLS correct".
