Does Lovable automatically sync with GitHub?
Last checked 31 Aug 2026
Short answer
Yes — once connected, Git sync is automatic and two-way: changes made in Lovable push to GitHub, and commits pushed to GitHub pull back into Lovable, with no manual export step required.
How the sync works
After you connect a repository, Lovable's GitHub integration keeps both sides in sync continuously:
- Every change you (or the AI) make inside Lovable is committed and pushed to the connected GitHub repository automatically.
- Changes pushed to GitHub — whether by you, a developer, or another tool — are pulled back into Lovable, so the two stay in step.
You don't need to manually export or trigger a sync each time; it happens as part of normal use once the connection exists.
What this means in practice
| Where you make a change | What happens |
|---|---|
| In Lovable chat/editor | Auto-committed and pushed to GitHub |
| Directly in the GitHub repo | Pulled back into Lovable automatically |
| In your own IDE, then pushed to GitHub | Pulled back into Lovable automatically |
Timing and conflicts
Sync typically happens within moments of a change, but if edits happen on both sides close together, conflicts are possible — Lovable and Git handle this similarly to normal Git workflows, and it's worth avoiding simultaneous edits in both places on the same files.
What usually goes wrong
- Assuming sync is one-way (Lovable → GitHub only) and being surprised when a manual GitHub edit changes what shows up in Lovable — see will editing GitHub break my Lovable project.
- Editing the same file in Lovable and in a local IDE at the same time, causing merge conflicts.
- Assuming a lack of visible sync means it's broken, when it's actually just a temporary delay or a connectivity issue — see why isn't GitHub syncing with Lovable for troubleshooting.

Automatic two-way sync is documented behaviour for Lovable's GitHub integration, not a manual export feature.

- AnswerHow do I connect Lovable to GitHub?Open your project's Settings, go to the GitHub/Git sync integration, authorise Lovable's GitHub app, and choose or create the repository to sync with — Lovable then keeps code in sync both ways automatically.
- AnswerCan I host Lovable code somewhere else?Yes. You can download your project's code or sync it to GitHub via Git sync, then deploy it to any host that supports a Node/Vite React app (Vercel, Netlify, your own server, and so on).
- AnswerCan I edit Lovable code directly in GitHub?Yes — once Git sync is connected, you (or a developer) can edit code directly in GitHub or your own IDE, and those changes sync back into Lovable automatically.
- AnswerWhy isn't GitHub syncing with Lovable?Usually a permissions/authorisation issue, a disconnected integration, or a conflicting edit on both sides at once — reconnect the GitHub app and check recent commits on both ends.
